Postcards from paris
Amour Paris
Bonjour from Paris! our latest adventure…..
There’s something magical about Paris in the winter, isn’t there, even when it snows!
Last week, my partner Aline and I had fun exploring the beautiful City with a small special group of clients (who have now become friends) we share our passion for antiques and design. From hidden flea markets to our favourite artisans and our special secret finds; it was a trip filled with laughter, inspiration, some great food and, of course, treasure hunting!”. We came together from all over, I took the train from London, others came from Seattle, New York and Washington DC and of course met up with our lovely Parisian, Aline.
The Markets We Explored
We were on a mission for some very particular finds, but also open to finding those items that touch your soul and say to you ‘take me home’! As well as our seasoned treasure hunters we had a ‘Newby’, our client’s fiancé who had never experienced the Paris Flea, so romance was in the air and it was exciting to meet him and introduce him to the wonders and treasures, but also ensure that he didn’t get lost, and we missed nothing!
So, Sunday morning we were all off to Marche aux Puces de Saint Ouen, with our comfy shoes and lunch reservations.
What our client found…
One of our guests discovered a stunning Deco silver tea set, in great condition and so perfect for her dining room to sit on a gorgeous cabinet that we had found on a previous trip. It’s moments like these that make our tours so rewarding.”
Aline and I were able to catch up with dealer friends at the market, share some stories and see what’s new and happening. I indulged myself with a few moments talking to Laurence at Ballesteros and reviewed their latest collection of early 20th century paintings. As a painter myself I love to see others work and particularly that period of early1900’s… Quel plaisir!
Revisiting Our Trusted Artisans
One of the most rewarding parts of our Paris visit was reconnecting with the talented artisans we’ve got to know over the years. These visits are always a highlight, as they deepen our relationships and ensure we continue to offer only the finest, most authentic experiences
Refining the Details for an Unforgettable Experience
We had the pleasure of visiting one of our favourite ateliers—a truly special space where artistry and craftsmanship come alive. It was more than just a visit; it was an opportunity to fine-tune the details for our next tour (April 2025). We’re thrilled to share that during our upcoming visit, we’ll be joined by an incredibly talented artist and designer who is a regular creative partner with Hermes, we will showcase his work and share his creative journey amongst other delights. To make it even more memorable, we’ve arranged an intimate lunch at the studio apartment—a setting that perfectly blends Parisian charm, exquisite food with artistic inspiration. We can’t wait to share this extraordinary experience with our guests!
We visited our little hidden gem of a boutique in a charming courtyard where they bring back to life 18th century designs on textiles and paper, always such a pleasure and temptation. Then on to our favourite ceramicist who’s original and fine porcelain work inspired us to co create a charming bespoke gift for our guests.
Finally off to a very special showroom (not available to the public) to witness the finest ornate panelling that once adorned the walls of a Chateau that Napoleon called home, ready to have elements recreated and to inspire contemporary rooms in grand hotels and the finest homes of today. The craftsmanship was breathtaking, a true testament to the grandeur of its era, an absolute delight that we are thrilled to be able to share with those that join us.
The weather was unpredictable, I arrived in a snow flurry and left with the temperature 10 degrees warmer and clear blue skies, luckily, I had clothes for every eventuality for a winter visit!
What’s the most magical antique find you have ever made? We would love to hear about it!
Perhaps PROVENCE appeals more, contact us to learn about our upcoming Provence tours, June & September 2025—it’s a completely different kind of magic!
PRO TIPS FOR ANTIQUE LOVERS
“Make a note on your phone with images and dimensions of the space you need to fill. When out and about at a store or market make the first image the name of the stand or store you are visiting then the item you are interested in. Always carry a measuring tape in your bag, you never know when you will find that perfect piece”
